Hanwha expected to sign $751 mn howitzer deal with Romania

Acording to The Korean Economic Daily Hanwha Aerospace Co., a leading aerospace and defense system developer in South Korea, is on the verge of finalizing a significant contract worth 1 trillion won ($751 million) to supply its K9 howitzers to Romania. This deal, expected to be signed next month, represents Hanwha’s inaugural export agreement with Romania and marks its sixth venture into the European market.

During its recent earnings conference call, the company disclosed its plans to unveil a weapons export deal with Romania in the first quarter. The agreement reportedly entails the provision of 54 units of its K9 howitzers to the Eastern European nation, valued at approximately 1 trillion won.

Competing against defense firms from Germany and Turkey, Hanwha Aerospace is poised to secure this lucrative contract, expanding its footprint in Europe. If successful, this deal would not only signify Hanwha’s breakthrough in the Romanian market but also its continued success in exporting weapons to European countries.

The company also confirmed that it is currently in negotiations with related parties to sell the K9 howitzers to the UK next year.
